Serving God’s children in San Mateo, Belize
Founded in 2006, Holy Cross Anglican School educates 440+ students each year. Located in the San Mateo, one of the poorest neighborhoods on the island of Ambergris Caye in Belize, the school doesn’t just provide an excellent education. They care for the whole child by proving healthy meals, dental, and medical care to children whose families, though hard-working, often struggle to provide the necessities. The school relies entirely on donations of talents, time, and treasure from the churches, organizations, and individuals that visit and support the school each year.
Our parish is proud to have partnered with the school for many years. Our bonds run deep. In fact, 3 members of our church sit on the board of the school’s Education Foundation. In addition to financial support, youth and adult volunteers from our parish take regular mission trips down to Belize to work on construction and maintenance projects. We also teach, help in the kitchen, and do general cleanup. See photos from our January 2020 trip to Belize here.
COVID-19 Response Update: While plans were underway for students to return to school this fall, re-opening has been put on hold by the Ministry of Education because of the return of COVID-19. Ambergris Caye is once again on lockdown until at least September 3rd. The reopening date is unknown at this time. Please, keep HCAS in your prayers. Pray for families to have food, shelter and support in their community; students and their families, and HCAS teachers.
